WHO WE WERE
The Fontauto Group was founded in 1915 in a small workshop in the centre of Cuneo by Mr. Fontana and was originally named “Officina Fontana”.
Known as “the wainwright”, he specialized in the repair of carriages, reinforcing the benches with iron for those used to transport valuable goods for the wealthiest clientele of the time.
In the following years, with the rapid economic growth of the post-war period and the involvement of his many sons in the business, the company moved to a larger facility in Borgo San Dalmazzo, where it remained for about forty years.
It was here that the Fontauto brand came to life, a name destined to leave an indelible mark on the industry.
In the early 1960s, Fontauto became one of the pioneers in the production of armoured cash-in-transit vehicles, ministerial cars, and special vehicles for law enforcement agencies, contributing to the development of the private security sector.
The company quickly rose to prominence, establishing itself as a key reference point in both the Italian and European markets.
Through strategic partnerships with manufacturers such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Iveco, Fontauto was able to organize serial production, manufacturing over 8,000 vehicles.
Building on these achievements, by the late 1990s the company relocated to its current headquarters in Boves, marking the beginning of a new era.

Over the past 25 years, with a generational transition and the entry of the Faroppa family into the company, Fontauto has undertaken a profound reorganization of its commercial, design, and production sectors.
Since the early 2000s, the company has introduced 3D design using advanced software, followed by the adoption of anthropomorphic laser scanners for surface scanning.
This technological evolution has made Fontauto a benchmark in customized design, offering tailor-made kit solutions. This innovative approach enables direct installation on the assembly lines of major global manufacturers, reducing both logistical costs and production times.
Today, Fontauto continues to supply the assembly lines of the most important vehicle manufacturers, consolidating its know-how through the development of advanced kits.
This method not only optimizes production processes but also has a positive impact on CO₂ emissions, reducing the transport of complete vehicles and focusing instead on the shipment of components only.
